Seller Highlight: Sofia / Hhiedra

As part of our run-up to the Etsy Christmas pop-up shop at the end of this month, we’d like to introduce some of our sellers to you. We asked them a few questions about their shop, how they became an Etsy seller and their golden tips for online success!

This episode: Sofia from Hhiedra

Sofia creates wonderful unique woven wall hangings as well as fun catΒ  brooches, illustrated notebooks and hand-painted mugs.

Her artwork also graces our flyers and posters! πŸ™‚

We combined Sofia’s artwork with Sue Nicholls choice of font.

How did you choose your shop name?

Well, it’s a word in Spanish, that means “Ivy”. I just love plants and they are part of my daily inspiration πŸ™‚

How did you decide to be an Etsy Seller?

Well.. I used to spend a lot of time admiring etsy shops and their sellers, but it seemed quite difficult to start one of my own whilst still in Argentina. The moment I moved to the UK I decided to open “Hiedra”.

What do you love most about your products?

I love being able to actually make “something” from scratch. I think right now, what I like the most are the illustrated notebooks, I have always drawn but never really knew what to do with the drawings… I really like how now the’ve become something useful.

What have been your biggest challenges in running an Etsy Shop?

I think pricing is something that I haven’t still figured out well. I feel like I still don’t know how to do it.
And, well, for me there is always the question of “what” to sell, because I like doing a whole range of different things and deciding what’s good for my shop and what isn’t is always a struggle.

What are your best tips for running an Etsy shop?

You have to be very aware that you are probably the only one that can make it work, and that can make your shop get known -at least at the start.
So you have to be very patient and spend a lot of time just letting others know that you have a shop and that it is worth the visit… But without spamming! Because there is absolutely no one that likes that πŸ˜‰

Hi - my name's Yvette! Originally from the Netherlands, I am a kind, lively and laid-back person with a can-do attitude. Together with my husband Sean, we have moved from the Netherlands to Newcastle-upon-Tyne (UK), Leamington Spa (UK), Sheffield (UK), Sydney (Australia), back to the Netherlands, to Dusseldorf (Germany), Cambridge (UK), Frankfurt (Germany and now Toronto (Canada) in the last 9 years. And no, I don't think this is our final stop either! I have learned most of my photographic craft whilst at Art college (quite a few years back), from the two portrait studio jobs I held in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and from assisting fine art dealer Linus Carr in Warwick. Even though I still own and use my digital camera, I mainly shoot on medium format Black and White film, using a Rolleiflex TLR. As I become more and more fascinated with old photography techniques, I started shooting wet plates in 2013. You can see some of my work on As anyone who has visited my shop or '1000crowsVintage' on Etsy may attest to, I am a big fan of carboots / charity shops as well as vintage fairs, garage sales, auctions ..... you get the idea - and my house is slowly filling up with beautiful random things - some of which I sell online, and some of which I will hoard for a while. x
